A US Senator from Vermont has introduced a new bill banning the use of cell phones for people under the age of 21.

WPTZ News reported that Senator John Rodgers' proposal would punish anyone with a mobile phone under the specified minimum age, with prison terms of up to a year, fined $ 1,000, or both.

Rodgers argued that young people are not very mature in the use of mobile phones, noting the role that devices play in fatal car accidents.

"Given the serious and life-threatening consequences of young people's use of mobile phones, it is clear that people under the age of 21 are not mature enough to have a safe phone," he said.

The bill notes that mobile phones are the driving force behind bullying and can fuel extremism. The bill says: "It uses the internet and social media, which is mainly accessed via mobile phones, to promote extremism and to recruit terrorists, fascists and other extremists."

Although he proposed the bill, Rodgers may not vote in favor of his proposal and does not expect it to be passed or implemented, as he explains that he proposed this law only in order to highlight the dangers of smart phone use by young people.
