The Louvre
The Louvre in Paris closed on Friday, as dozens of demonstrators demonstrated in front of the museum’s entrance to denounce the French government's plans to reform the pension system.
The museum said that the Leonardo Da Vinci Gallery, which celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the Italian artist, which is being exhibited at the Louvre, was closed as a result.
Dozens of demonstrators, including some Louvre museum staff, demonstrated after an appeal by several left-wing trade unions against the changes that French President Emmanuel Macron planned to implement in the pension system, which they said would "cut everyone's pensions."
This is the first time, since the protest movement started on December 5, when the Louvre and the Leonardo Gallery are completely closed. About 30,000 people visit the museum every day.
Some videos on social media showed angry visitors chanting against demonstrators to express their disappointment after the museum closed its doors.
Weeks of strikes and protests have hindered public transportation, disrupted schools, hospitals, the judiciary, and even operas and the Eiffel Tower.
