Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau considered that Iran bears full responsibility for shooting down the Ukrainian plane near Tehran and paying compensation to the families of the victims of the accident, stressing the need to conduct an investigation

Trudeau said, at a press conference, that he still had questions about the downing of the Ukrainian plane, stressing the need to obtain "clear answers to ensure that the disaster was really caused by a mistake."

Trudeau noted that Iran's recognition of the flight was "an important step," adding: "We expect cooperation from the Iranian authorities. A thorough investigation must be conducted."

The Canadian Prime Minister added that the downing of a civilian passenger plane represents "a terrifying matter and Iran must pay compensation to the families of the victims, part of the measures that must be taken."

Trudeau stressed that tension in the region due to the American-Iranian escalation contributed to the plane crash, stressing that conflicts often lead to the loss of innocent lives of people.

Commenting on the protests currently taking place in Iran against the backdrop of the disaster, Trudeau said that Iranian citizens, and indeed the whole world, should demand answers to clarify what happened and hold officials accountable.

Iran announced, earlier in the day, that the Ukrainian "Boeing" plane that crashed at the dawn of January 8 near Tehran, in a disaster that killed 176 people, including 63 Canadians, was accidentally shot down by a missile fired by an Iranian air defense system that was on alert after the missile strikes. That the Iranian Revolutionary Guard directed, a few hours before the incident, to American military targets in Iraq.

The Air Force command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard assumed full responsibility for the disaster, while Rouhani described it as an "unforgivable error."
